Why We Resist Changing Our Minds: Lizard Brain to Herd Mentality

I think, you know, I think there's a number of drivers. Uh, part of it is our lizard brain. Um, part of it is, uh, you know, I think a deeply embedded evolutionary uh impulse to go with the herd and not vary from convention. Um, also uh, you know, an impulse to be defensive and be alarmed. And so you're you're prone for survival, I think, to heed warnings about things that may not even really be real, you know, case in point, the uh, I ran being two weeks away from having a nuclear bomb, you know, in President Trump's mendacious words. Um, I think, you know, I think that's a big part of it, is the psychology of it. Um, then there's the aspect of uh, a complete lack of intellectual honesty by most people, you know, the ability to, uh, uh, question one's understanding of things, to rethink one's positions, to listen to contrary voices. Um, and that is, you know, and an aside, I guess, one pitfall of the uh, evolution of media and the dispersal of it is that it's increasingly uh, convenient for people to only seek out things that reinforce their beliefs. ...
