Ice Age's Sudden End: Extreme Global Warming Revealed

Two extreme global warming events at the end of the Great Ice Age. Here's the first one, and here's the second one. Those two warming events were associated with massive catastrophic melting of the great ice sheets. Okay? So there's that connection. We've got the young, and this, this plunge back into full glacial cold here, that's what we call the Younger Dryas. And so you had, the Younger Dryas is bracketed by these two extreme warming events. The second warming event succeeded in kicking the planet out of the ice Age. And here you can see this trend up into what we would call Holocene warmth. Now, as to the rate at which these, these warmings took place, which are many times the amplitude of the, of the global warming of the last century or two, right? Here is what the ice data revealed. From measurements of annual ice layer thickness over the past 15,000 years, the authors find that Greenland's climate emerging from the last ice Age, twice shifted from glacial to interglacial conditions over an astonishingly quick three to five years.
